Siloy View Deck
About Siloy View Deck
Description
Perched high above the rolling hills of Dalaguete, Cebu, the Siloy View Deck offers one of the most jaw-dropping panoramic views you'll find in the Philippines. I still remember the first time I made it up here - my legs were a bit shaky from the climb, but boy was it worth it! The deck sits at a sweet spot where you can take in sweeping vistas of the surrounding mountains, verdant valleys, and on clear days, even glimpses of the sparkling Bohol Sea in the distance. The viewing platform itself is a rustic wooden structure that blends perfectly with the natural surroundings. What really makes this spot special is how it lets you feel like you're floating above the landscape. And trust me, those Instagram photos don't do it justice - you've gotta experience this in person to really get it.Key Features
• 360-degree panoramic viewing platform offering unobstructed mountain and sea views • Natural trails surrounded by native pine trees and wild flowers • Several wooden benches strategically placed for rest and photography • Small covered area providing shelter from sun or rain • Local guide availability for enhanced hiking experience • Rich biodiversity with occasional sightings of native birds • Perfect sunset viewing location • Several photography spots with natural frames • Clean mountain air and cool climate • Multiple hiking difficulty levels to reach the deckBest Time to Visit
As someone who's been here multiple times throughout the year, I can tell you that timing is everything at Siloy View Deck. Early morning, between 5:30 AM and 8:00 AM, is absolutely magical - that's when you'll catch the sunrise painting the sky in incredible colors and before any clouds roll in. The morning light makes everything look extra special, and the air is crisp and clear. If you're not an early bird (I get it!), your next best bet is late afternoon, around 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. That's when you can catch those golden hour shots and possibly one of the most spectacular sunsets you'll ever see. Just keep in mind that weather patterns can be a bit unpredictable up here, especially during the rainy season from June to November. How to Get There
Getting to Siloy View Deck is part of the adventure! From Cebu City, catch a bus heading to Dalaguete at the South Bus Terminal. The journey takes about 3 hours, and lemme tell you - bring some snacks and maybe download a podcast or two. Once you reach Dalaguete proper, you'll need to hire a habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) to take you to the starting point of the trail. The trek up to the view deck varies in difficulty depending on which trail you choose. There's an easier 15-minute walk for beginners, or if you're feeling adventurous like me, take the more challenging 30-minute trail that offers additional viewpoints along the way. Both paths are well-maintained, but they can get a bit slippery after rain, so proper footwear is a must!Tips for Visiting
Listen up, because these tips come from someone who learned them the hard way! First off, wear proper hiking shoes - those cute sandals might look good in photos, but they won't feel so great on the trail. Pack light but bring essentials: water (more than you think you'll need), snacks, sunscreen, and a light jacket because it can get pretty chilly up there. I always recommend bringing a good camera, but don't get so caught up in taking photos that you forget to actually enjoy the view. Trust me on this one - take some time to just sit and soak it all in. The place has this way of making you forget about your phone for a while. If you're visiting during peak season (December to May), try to arrive either super early or later in the afternoon to avoid both the crowds and the harsh midday sun. And here's a pro tip: make friends with the local guides! They know all the best spots for photos and can tell you fascinating stories about the area's history and wildlife. Remember to bring some small bills for the entrance fee and guide tips. Oh, and keep an eye out for the Siloy bird - it's this beautiful black and white creature that the view deck is named after. I've seen it a couple times during my visits, usually early in the morning when there's less foot traffic. Lastly, please practice "leave no trace" principles. This spot is stunning precisely because visitors before us have respected the environment. Pack out what you pack in, stick to marked trails, and resist the urge to pick flowers or disturb wildlife. Future visitors (and your conscience) will thank you!Key Features
