From my experience, the sweet spot for visiting Selwo Marina is during the shoulder season – think April to June or September to October. The weather’s perfect then, and you won’t have to battle the intense summer crowds. Plus, the animals tend to be more active during these milder months.

Morning visits, especially right when they open, are your best bet. The animals are typically more energetic, and you’ll have a better chance of grabbing front-row seats for the shows. I learned this the hard way after showing up at noon during peak season once – big mistake!

And hey, if you’re trying to avoid the busiest times, skip weekends and Spanish holidays. Trust me on this one – the difference in crowd levels is like night and day.

How to Get There

Getting to Selwo Marina is actually pretty straightforward. If you’re staying in Benalmádena or nearby areas, you’ve got several options. The easiest way is probably by taxi or ride-share – it’s about a 5-minute ride from Benalmádena center.

If you’re feeling more adventurous (or budget-conscious like me), you can hop on one of the local buses. They run pretty regularly throughout the day, and the bus stop is just a short walk from the entrance.

For those driving themselves, there’s a paid parking lot right at the facility. I’d recommend getting there early though – the lot can fill up fast during peak season. And don’t forget to keep your parking ticket handy!

Tips for Visiting

Okay, so here’s the inside scoop from someone who’s been there multiple times. First off, buy your tickets online beforehand – you’ll save both money and time. Sometimes they even run special promotions that aren’t available at the gate.

Bring a water bottle and some snacks. While there’s a restaurant on-site, it can get pretty pricey. And trust me, you’ll want to stay hydrated, especially during those summer months.

Don’t miss the feeding sessions! The schedule changes seasonally, so check the daily program when you arrive. The penguin feeding is particularly fascinating – I could watch those little guys for hours!
