Ever since I first stumbled upon Benirràs beach during my travels through Ibiza, I’ve been completely captivated by its unique charm. This magical cove, tucked away on the northern coast of the island, perfectly balances natural beauty with an unmistakable bohemian spirit. The beach itself is a delightful mix of soft sand and smooth pebbles, framed by towering pine trees that provide welcome shade on scorching summer days.

The real showstopper here is the dramatic rock formation known as Cap Bernat (or “the hand of God” as locals call it) that rises majestically from the crystal-clear Mediterranean waters. But what truly sets this beach apart – and I’ve seen my fair share of beaches – is the incredible sunset drumming sessions that happen every Sunday. Trust me, there’s nothing quite like experiencing dozens of drummers playing in harmony as the sun dips below the horizon.

Best Time to Visit

From my experience, the sweet spot for visiting Benirràs is between May and October. July and August can get pretty packed – especially on Sundays for the drumming sessions – but that’s also when the atmosphere is at its most electric. If you’re looking for a more peaceful experience, try early June or September when the weather’s still fantastic but crowds are thinner.

I’d suggest timing your visit for late afternoon, around 4 PM, particularly if you’re coming on a Sunday. This gives you enough time to enjoy the beach before the drummers start setting up around sunset. The golden hour here is absolutely magical, and you’ll want to soak in every minute of it.

How to Get There

Getting to Benirràs requires a bit of planning, but that’s part of what keeps it special. From San Miguel village, you can follow the winding road down to the beach – it’s about a 10-minute drive. During peak season (July-August), there’s a park-and-ride service from San Miguel because parking can be a real headache near the beach.

If you’re coming from Ibiza Town, expect about a 30-minute drive. You can also catch a bus from San Antonio or Ibiza Town, but schedules can be limited, so double-check the timings. I once made the mistake of missing the last bus back – let’s just say it was an expensive taxi ride!

Tips for Visiting

I’ve learned a thing or two from my visits to Benirràs, and I’m happy to share some insider tips. First off, bring water shoes – those pebbles can be tough on tender feet! The beach facilities are pretty basic, so pack everything you might need for the day.

Arrive early if you’re coming on a Sunday – by 5 PM it gets super busy with people claiming spots for the sunset drumming. Bring cash as not all vendors accept cards, and don’t forget to pick up some local snacks from the beach bars – the fresh fish is amazing here.

For the best photos, head to the right side of the beach where you’ll get perfect shots of Cap Bernat. And if you’re into snorkeling (which you absolutely should try here), the left side of the bay has some fascinating rock formations and marine life.

Consider booking a table at one of the beach restaurants in advance during peak season – the sunset views from these spots are incredible, and they fill up fast. And please, whatever you do, take all your trash with you when you leave. This beautiful spot has managed to maintain its natural charm despite its popularity, and we all need to do our part to keep it that way.
