Description
I’ve been lucky enough to visit the End of the Pier in Cabo San Lucas multiple times, and let me tell you – it’s one of those spots that just takes your breath away every single time. Picture this: you’re walking along a wide, wheelchair-accessible boardwalk that stretches out into the stunning Sea of Cortez, with the iconic El Arco rock formation creating a dramatic backdrop. The pier has become my favorite sunset-watching spot in all of Cabo, and trust me, that’s saying something!

Best Time to Visit
From my experience, early morning (around 7 AM) and late afternoon (5 PM onwards) offer the most magical moments at the pier. The morning brings calm waters and active marine life, while sunset hours paint the sky in incredible colors. During whale season (December to March), I’d recommend mid-morning visits when the sea is typically calmer and visibility is best. Weekdays tend to be less crowded than weekends, and if you’re into photography like me, you’ll want to catch that golden hour light just before sunset.
How to Get There
Getting to the End of the Pier is pretty straightforward. From downtown Cabo San Lucas, you can easily grab a taxi or use ride-sharing services – most drivers know exactly where to drop you off. If you’re feeling adventurous like I was on my first visit, it’s about a 15-minute walk from the marina along the beach. Water taxis also drop off nearby if you’re coming from Medano Beach or other coastal areas. The pier has a convenient parking lot if you’re driving yourself, including designated accessible parking spots.
Tips for Visiting
Look, I learned some of these tips the hard way, so let me save you some trouble! Bring a light jacket or windbreaker – even on warm days, the breeze can get pretty strong out there. Your phone camera will work just fine for most shots, but if you’re serious about photography, bring a wide-angle lens to capture the full majesty of El Arco.
Mornings are perfect for bird watching – I’ve spotted some amazing species including frigatebirds and pelicans. During whale season, bring binoculars if you have them. The pier can get slippery when wet, so wear shoes with good grip.
Oh, and here’s something most guides won’t tell you – the best spot for photos isn’t actually at the very end, but about three-quarters of the way down where you get the perfect angle of both the coastline and El Arco.
Don’t forget water and sun protection – the Mexican sun can be intense, and there’s limited shade on the pier itself. If you’re planning to stay for sunset (which I highly recommend), arrive at least 30 minutes early to snag a good viewing spot. The crowds can get pretty thick during peak season, but it’s totally worth it.
And speaking from experience, keep your eyes on the water – you might spot sea turtles, rays, and if you’re super lucky like I was last winter, even jumping mobula rays! Just remember to keep your distance from any wildlife and never feed the birds – it’s better for them and helps preserve this amazing spot for future visitors.
