I stumbled across your post and got really confused – I think there might be a mixup about Haddis Alemayehu in Debre Mark’os? I was planning to visit Ethiopia next year and had his statue on my list after reading his novels in translation. Is the sculpture actually there? The last blog I read mentioned it was near the library but your post seems to be missing details. Has anyone been recently? I’d love to know if it’s worth the detour from Bahir Dar, and if there are any local guides who can explain more about his literary significance. Also wondering if there are any good coffee shops nearby to sit and read some of his work? Ethiopian coffee is absolutely incredible and I can’t think of a better way to appreciate a literary figure than reading their work in their hometown with a traditional coffee!
