Best Time to Visit
From my experience, late spring (April to May) and early fall (September to October) are absolutely magical here. The weather’s just right – not too hot, not too cold – and you’ll dodge those peak summer crowds. Summer can get pretty toasty, especially in July and August, though the evening atmosphere is electric with all the outdoor festivities. And ya know what? Winter has its own charm too, especially when the stone walls are dusted with snow and the cafes are extra cozy.
How to Get There
Getting to Novi Put is part of the adventure! If you’re coming from the city center, you can hop on any of the local buses heading east – trust me, the scenic route is worth it. Walking is my personal favorite way to arrive (about 20 minutes from the main square), as you’ll discover some amazing little side streets along the way. Taxis are readily available too, but I’d suggest using the official taxi stands or apps to avoid any tourist markup.
Tips for Visiting
Listen up, because these tips come from someone who learned them the hard way! Early mornings are your best bet if you want those perfect photos without other people in them. Bring cash – while many places accept cards, some of the best little shops are old-school. Comfortable walking shoes are a must (I made the mistake of wearing new sandals once – never again!).
Try to learn a few basic local phrases – even just “hello” and “thank you” will get you far and locals really appreciate the effort. The best spots for coffee are actually tucked away in the side alleys, not the main thoroughfare. Oh, and don’t forget to look up – some of the most beautiful architectural details are above eye level!
If you’re into photography, the golden hour here is absolutely spectacular – the way the light hits the stone buildings creates this warm, magical glow that’s totally worth planning your visit around. And seriously, take time to chat with the locals – they’ve got some amazing stories about the place that you won’t find in any guidebook.
Weekends can get pretty busy with local events, so if you’re after a more laid-back experience, aim for weekday visits. And while summer afternoons can be scorching, that’s actually when you’ll find the best deals in the shops as most tourists are hiding from the heat!
