Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary in Gangtok protects over 30 square kilometers of high-altitude forest and alpine meadows, ranging from about 1,800 to 4,000 meters above sea level. The sanctuary is notable for its dense rhododendron stands, more than 40 species of orchids, and regular sightings of Himalayan wildlife such as red pandas, musk deer, and numerous pheasant species. Well-marked trails lead to panoramic views of the Kanchenjunga range and allow close-up observation of fragile alpine flora and endemic birdlife.
