I visited Middleton Lakes last autumn and was blown away by how a former gravel quarry could transform into such a vibrant ecosystem! Has anyone been during the spring migration? I’m planning to return in April and wondering if those avocets mentioned in the post are easy to spot then? Also curious about the canal towpath cycling route – sounds like a gorgeous way to arrive! For those who’ve visited recently, which of the bird hides offered the best sightings? I only managed to check out two last time before a surprise downpour sent me running back to the car (without my “essential waterproof footwear” lol). Oh, and did anyone else get lucky enough to spot the otters? They eluded me completely, and they’re top of my wildlife wishlist for next time!
