Park Ridge Drive stands as one of those hidden gems you’d typically drive right past without realizing what you’re missing. I stumbled upon this scenic route during one of my weekend adventures, and boy, was I glad I did! The winding road offers spectacular views that’ll make you want to pull over every few minutes just to take it all in.

What really caught my attention was how the road seems to perfectly balance natural beauty with accessibility. The pavement’s well-maintained (way better than some of the other drives I’ve been on!), and the curves aren’t too challenging for newer drivers. You’ll find yourself surrounded by towering trees that create this amazing natural canopy – it’s especially gorgeous during fall when the leaves start changing colors.

Best Time to Visit

From my experience, early morning or late afternoon tends to be the sweet spot for driving Park Ridge. The lighting’s just perfect then, and there’s usually less traffic. Fall’s probably my favorite season here – the colors are absolutely incredible, and the weather’s just right for a leisurely drive or a quick hike.

Spring brings its own charm with wildflowers popping up everywhere, but you might wanna pack an umbrella just in case. Summer can get pretty busy, especially on weekends, so I’d suggest planning your visit for weekdays if possible. Winter’s beautiful too, but just keep in mind that some sections might be a bit tricky after snowfall.

How to Get There

Getting to Park Ridge Drive isn’t complicated, but you’ll want to pay attention to your GPS. The road connects with several major highways in the area, and you can access it from multiple entry points. If you’re coming from downtown, take the main thoroughfare heading east until you see the signs for Park Ridge. Trust me, it’s easier than it sounds – I managed to find it on my first try, and I’m terrible with directions!

Public transportation isn’t really an option here, so you’ll need your own vehicle or a rental. And speaking of vehicles, while you don’t need a 4×4, I’d recommend something with decent ground clearance just to be on the safe side.

Tips for Visiting

Alright, let me share some insider tips I’ve picked up from my visits. First off, bring your camera – you’re gonna want it! The lighting’s particularly amazing during golden hour, and there are so many spots where you’ll want to stop and capture the moment.

Fill up your gas tank before heading out. There aren’t many service stations along the route, and the last thing you want is to run low in the middle of your drive. Pack some snacks and water too – I learned this one the hard way!

Weather can change pretty quickly here, so dress in layers and keep a light jacket in the car. If you’re planning to explore any of the trails, sturdy shoes are a must. The paths can get a bit slippery after rain.

Oh, and don’t forget to download your maps offline before heading out. Cell service can be spotty in some areas – I’ve had a few moments where my phone got absolutely no signal.

Watch out for wildlife, especially during dawn and dusk. They tend to be more active during these times, and you definitely don’t want any surprise encounters while driving.

Lastly, take your time! This isn’t a route you want to rush through. Plan for plenty of stops, and maybe pack a picnic to enjoy at one of the overlooks. Some of my best memories here have been just sitting at a viewpoint, enjoying a sandwich, and taking in the incredible scenery.
