About Mercat Vell de Mollet del Vallès

Description

Let me tell you about one of my favorite cultural spots in Mollet del Vallès! The Mercat Vell, which literally means "Old Market" in Catalan, has been transformed from its humble beginnings as a marketplace into an amazing performing arts theater. Y'know, I absolutely love how they've preserved the building's historical character while giving it new life as an entertainment venue. The architecture alone is worth checking out - it's got this gorgeous early 20th-century industrial style that you just don't see much anymore. The exposed brick walls and iron framework tell stories of its past life, while the modern theatrical installations show how far it's come. And don't even get me started on the acoustics - they're surprisingly fantastic for what used to be a market hall!

Key Features

• Beautifully restored historic market building with original architectural elements • Modern theater space with excellent acoustics • Fully wheelchair accessible entrance and facilities • Family-friendly venue suitable for all ages • Regular program of theatrical performances and cultural events • Intimate setting that creates an immersive audience experience • Central location in the heart of Mollet del Vallès • Mix of local and touring productions throughout the year

Best Time to Visit

From my experience, the best time to check out Mercat Vell is during the main theater season, which typically runs from September through May. That's when you'll find the most diverse programming and the biggest shows. The weekend evening performances tend to draw the largest crowds - and honestly, there's nothing quite like the buzz of a full house here! Summer months can be a bit quieter with fewer shows, but they sometimes host special events and festivals that are totally worth checking out. Just keep in mind that July and August can get pretty warm inside, even though they've done their best with the ventilation system.

How to Get There

Getting to Mercat Vell is pretty straightforward, especially if you're coming from Barcelona. The R2 North line from Barcelona's Sants Station will get you to Mollet-Sant Fost station in about 20 minutes. From there, it's an easy 10-minute walk to the theater - just follow the signs to the town center. If you're driving (which I've done plenty of times), there's public parking nearby, though it can get a bit crowded on performance nights. Pro tip: arrive at least 30 minutes before showtime to find good parking and grab a pre-show drink at one of the nearby cafes.

Tips for Visiting

Okay, so here's what I've learned from my many visits: First off, book your tickets in advance whenever possible. The more popular shows can sell out quickly, especially on weekends. You can usually snag tickets at the box office, but why risk it? Dress code is pretty relaxed - I've seen folks in everything from jeans to semi-formal wear. But do bring a light jacket or sweater; the air conditioning can get chilly during longer performances. If you're bringing kids (which is totally fine!), try to grab seats near the aisle. The sight lines are generally good throughout the venue, but having easy access to the exits can be a lifesaver with restless little ones. And here's a insider tip most folks don't know about: the seats in the middle section, about 7-8 rows back, offer the absolute best views and sound quality. Trust me on this one - I've sat pretty much everywhere in the house! It's also worth checking out what's happening in the surrounding area before or after the show. There are some fantastic local restaurants within walking distance where you can grab dinner or drinks. The whole neighborhood really comes alive on performance nights!
