Being in Lutong, the beach also carries a bit of history tied to Miri’s reputation as Malaysia’s first oil town. The area nearby still bears the mark of the oil and gas industry, and you might even notice the industrial background when you look inland. For some, the juxtaposition of industry and natural coastline feels unique – a reminder that Miri blends old oil town grit with coastal beauty.
