Bheemili Beach
About Bheemili Beach
Description
Let me tell you about one of my favorite coastal spots in Andhra Pradesh - Bheemili Beach, a stunning stretch of golden sand that's become increasingly popular with both locals and tourists. I was blown away by its pristine shoreline when I first visited. The beach runs alongside the charming town of Bheemunipatnam (or Bheemili as us locals call it), and it's genuinely one of the most peaceful beaches I've encountered in the region.
The waves here are absolutely perfect for swimming during calm weather, though you'll want to be careful during monsoon season (more on that later!). What really sets this beach apart is how the sand slopes gently into the Bay of Bengal, making it ideal for families with kids who want to splash around safely in the shallows.
The atmosphere here is refreshingly different from the usual crowded tourist beaches. You'll find local fishermen bringing in their morning catch, kids building sandcastles, and food vendors selling fresh coconut water and traditional snacks. And don't even get me started on the sunrises - they're absolutely spectacular!
Key Features
• Clear, blue waters perfect for swimming and water sports • Wide, sandy shoreline ideal for beach walks and jogging • Traditional fishing boats dotting the coastline • Fresh seafood available from local vendors • Beautiful sunrise viewing spots • Clean, well-maintained beach area • Safe swimming zones (during appropriate seasons) • Historic Dutch-era buildings nearby • Local street food stalls and small eateries • Ample parking space near the beach • Basic amenities like changing rooms and restrooms • Regular lifeguard presence during peak hoursBest Time to Visit
I've visited Bheemili Beach during all seasons, and trust me, timing is everything! The best months to plan your visit are between November and February. The weather's just perfect then - not too hot, with temperatures hovering between 20-28°C (68-82°F). Plus, the water's calm enough for swimming and water activities.
But here's a pro tip: try to avoid the summer months (March to June) when the heat can be pretty intense. And during monsoon season (July to October), the sea gets rough, and swimming isn't recommended. Though, if you're like me and love watching dramatic skies and powerful waves, monsoon visits can be pretty amazing - just keep a safe distance from the water!
How to Get There
Getting to Bheemili Beach is pretty straightforward, though the journey itself is part of the adventure! From Visakhapatnam city, you've got several options. I usually take the scenic coastal road - it's about a 25-kilometer drive that'll take you roughly 45 minutes, depending on traffic.
If you're relying on public transport, catch one of the regular RTC buses from Visakhapatnam. They run every 30 minutes or so and drop you just a short walk from the beach. Auto-rickshaws are also available, but make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand (I learned that lesson the hard way!).
For those coming from further afield, the nearest airport is Visakhapatnam International Airport, about 35 kilometers away. From there, you can grab a taxi or pre-book a cab through various ride-hailing apps.
Tips for Visiting
After countless visits to Bheemili Beach, I've picked up some handy tips that'll make your visit more enjoyable. First off, try to reach early morning or late afternoon - the lighting is gorgeous for photos, and the temperature's much more pleasant. Plus, you might catch the local fishermen bringing in their morning catch!
Don't forget to carry essentials like sunscreen, water, and a hat. The sun can be pretty intense, even on cloudy days. If you're planning to swim, bring a change of clothes - the changing rooms are basic but functional.
For the foodies out there (like myself!), sample some local snacks from the vendors, but stick to the busy stalls where the food turnover is high. The fresh coconut water is a must-try, especially on hot days.
Be mindful of the tide times - the beach is most enjoyable during low tide when there's more space to walk and play. And while the beach is generally clean, do your part by carrying a small bag for your trash.
If you're into photography, the old Dutch buildings near the beach make for fantastic backdrops. Just remember to respect local customs and ask permission before photographing people.
Lastly, keep some cash handy - most local vendors don't accept cards. And while weekends can get busy with local tourists, weekdays are perfect for those seeking a more peaceful beach experience. Trust me, there's nothing quite like having a quiet stretch of this beautiful beach almost to yourself!
