Ok, here’s the deal with timing your visit – it really depends on what you’re after. Summer months (May through September) bring calmer waters and perfect swimming conditions. That’s when I usually take my family because the waters are gentle enough for the kids to splash around.

But if you’re coming for the legendary surf? Winter’s your jam! Between November and February, those massive waves that made the North Shore famous come rolling in. The surf competitions during this time are absolutely incredible – I still remember my jaw dropping the first time I saw those 30-foot waves!

How to Get There

Getting to the North Shore’s easier than you might think! From Honolulu International Airport, you’ve got several options. Food trucks are THE way to go for lunch. Skip the fancy restaurants and try the garlic shrimp – seriously life-changing! But get there before peak lunch hours (11:30-1:00) or you’ll be waiting forever. I always carry cash too, since some trucks don’t take cards.

Respect local customs and residents. This isn’t just a tourist destination – it’s home to many Hawaiians. When parking, make sure you’re not blocking anyone’s driveway or access to the beach. And please, please don’t try to pet the sea turtles – it’s illegal and not cool!
