Best Time to Visit
Ya know what’s cool about the San Juan Islands? Different whales show up throughout the year! But if you’re asking me, the peak season runs from March through October. That’s when you’ll catch those magnificent orcas doing their thing. Summer months – particularly July and August – tend to be the busiest, with the most consistent weather and longest daylight hours.
Spring brings gray whales migrating through, while fall offers chances to spot humpbacks. Even in winter, you might get lucky with some resident orcas! The morning tours usually have calmer waters, but I’ve had some amazing afternoon trips too. Weather can be unpredictable (it’s the Pacific Northwest, after all), so dress in layers no matter when you go.
How to Get There
Getting to Island Adventures is pretty straightforward. If you’re coming from Seattle, you’ll want to head north on I-5 and follow the signs towards Anacortes.
