Edmonds City Park

Description

Edmonds City Park stands as one of those magical places where community and nature blend perfectly. I’ve spent countless summer afternoons here, and let me tell you – this 27-acre green space really captures the essence of Pacific Northwest outdoor living. The towering evergreens create these amazing natural canopies, and on a clear day, you can catch glimpses of Puget Sound through the trees.

Key Features

• A seriously impressive playground that’s actually divided into sections for different age groups (my kids absolutely love the climbing structures)
• Multiple sports fields, including a well-maintained baseball diamond
• Paved walking trails that wind through wooded areas
• Several picnic areas with BBQ grills (I always try to snag the ones near the playground)
• Modern restroom facilities
• A basketball court that’s usually busy with pickup games
• Tennis courts that are surprisingly well-maintained
• Off-leash dog area where pups can run free
• Plenty of open green space for impromptu games or relaxation

Best Time to Visit

Summer months are absolutely gorgeous here, especially from June through September when the weather’s most reliable. But honestly? I’ve found some of my favorite peaceful moments during spring afternoons, when the crowds are thinner and you can hear birds singing in the trees. Weekend mornings tend to get pretty busy with sports activities and families, so if you’re looking for a quieter experience, try visiting on weekdays or later in the evenings when the golden hour light filters through the trees – it’s pretty magical.

How to Get There

The park sits right in the heart of Edmonds, and you really can’t miss it. If you’re coming from downtown Edmonds, just head east up Main Street and you’ll run right into it. There’s plenty of free parking available – I usually have better luck finding spots in the lower lot during busy times. Public transit users can catch several local buses that stop within walking distance. And yeah, if you’re feeling energetic, it’s totally walkable from the Edmonds downtown area.

Tips for Visiting

Pack a picnic! The tables near the playground are perfect for family lunches, but they fill up fast on sunny days. I learned this the hard way – now I always bring a blanket as backup.

Bring layers, especially during shoulder seasons. The tree cover can make it feel cooler than you’d expect, even on sunny days. Trust me on this one.

The best bathrooms are near the main playground – they’re newer and usually cleaner than the ones by the sports fields.

If you’re bringing dogs, remember to carry waste bags. Even though the park provides some, they occasionally run out during busy times.

The playground can get super busy after school hours, so plan accordingly if you’ve got little ones. Morning visits tend to be more chill.

Don’t forget your sports equipment! The courts and fields are free to use when there aren’t organized activities happening.

During summer, the water fountains sometimes get a bit wonky – bring your own water just in case.

And hey, keep your eyes peeled for local events – the park hosts some pretty cool community gatherings throughout the year, especially during summer months. The annual summer concerts are definitely worth checking out!

Remember to check the weather forecast before heading out. While there’s plenty of tree cover, some areas can get pretty soggy after rain (which, let’s be real, happens a lot in the PNW).
