Oil heiress Aline Barnsdall bought Olive Hill in 1919 to build a progressive theater colony and residence. She commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright; the ambitious plan was only partly realized, leaving today’s ensemble: Hollyhock House, gallery/theater spaces, and an olive grove integrated into Wright and Lloyd Wright’s landscape concepts.
